Speech determines selling prices in shops, and comes into play frequently when doing quests. It gets very powerful later, when you can sneak up behind an opponent and silently stab them for 15x damage with noone noticing.
This is incredibly useful with a bow, as any character can stealth at range. Sneak lets you remain undetected by enemies, allowing you to slip by unnoticed or deliver potent sneak attacks. A purely thief skill that relies heavily on Sneak.
This is great for making money, but it is not necessary for success. The most optional thief skill, pickpocket lets you steal directly from NPCs' inventories. A very useful skill for all adventurers, but particularly thieves. Its uses are many, from unlocking chests in dungeons without a key, to sneaking into a shop after hours to steal everything of value. Lockpicking lets you pick locks – the most obvious skill. Light Armor can easily hit the armor cap with smithing and enchanting. You can take a number of perks to increase its effects and make your character more mobile. Light Armor reduces damage while wearing this class of armor. Potion effects can do the simple such as heal, or grant more powerful enhancements like increased one-handed damage or provide magical resistance. This is a huge money maker in Skyrim and can make you rich very quickly with little effort.
